Third lecture of “University Life”
On October 27th, 2024, the third "University Life" lecture organized by the Department of General Education at MUST was successfully held at R109 Grand Auditorium, attracting over 3,000 freshmen to the lecture. Emeritus Professor SANG Zhiqin from Nanjing University's School of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Associate Professor TAN Wenjuan from the Center of Mental Health Education and Research were invited to share their insights on mental health with the new students.

Associate Professor TAN Wenjuan shared the topic "Mental Health - Secrets to Youth Mental Health". At the beginning of her lecture, Associate Professor Tan discussed three philosophical questions: Who am I? Where did I come from? And where am I going? Then, she led the students to gradually think about the relationship between "myself and myself", "ego and others", and "ego and events", and detailed shared the factors affecting personal growth, key dimensions promoting self-harmony, and important principles of interpersonal communication.
Finally, Associate Professor TAN hoped that students could improve their self-efficacy through effective goal management, time and task management, and emotional and stress management during their college life, and encouraged each student to accept the past, organize the present, and yearn for the future, without being bound by emotions and without chaos in mind, and become a better version of themselves.

Professor SANG Zhiqin shared the topic "Sunny Mindset, Healthy Life". The lecture began with a warm interaction between Professor SANG and the students. From the clapping game to the breathing exercise, all students actively participated. Professor SANG introduced positive psychology and how to create happiness through positive thinking, and showed the“Eight-Fold Way”of positive psychology through scientific research on happiness.
Finally, Professor SANG hoped that every student coming to MUST would be the protagonist and director of their own college life, finding their place in the new environment with self-reliance, confidence, and positive psychology, becoming an invincible warrior on the road to self-improvement. The lecture concluded with enthusiastic applause.
This "University Life" course is a compulsory course set up for new undergraduate students by MUST, aiming to help freshmen transition into university life smoothly and quickly as well as to plan for their future career paths through a series of comprehensive, interdisciplinary lectures and practical experiences.
