Third “University Life” Lecture

On November 16, 2025, the third "University Life" lecture organized by the Department of General Education at MUST was successfully held at the R109 Grand Auditorium, attracting over 3,000 freshmen. Emeritus Professor SANG Zhiqin from the Nanjing University's School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Associate Professor TAN Wenjuan from the Center of Mental Health Education and Research, and counselors HE Jing, CHAN Hangson, CHAN Ianu, and LAO Chaokei from the Student Affairs Office Psychological Counseling Team, were invited to share their insights on mental health with the new students.

Associate Professor TAN Wenjuan

Associate Professor TAN Wenjuan gave a lecture titled "Embrace a Better Self with a Positive Mindset". Opening with three fundamental philosophical questions - Who am I? Where did I come from? And where am I going? - She guided students to gradually reflect about the relationships between the self and the inner self, the self and others, and the self and external circumstances. The lecture further addressed factors affecting personal growth, the dimensions that foster personal harmony, and important principles of interpersonal communication. Associate Professor TAN encouraged students to improve their self-efficacy through effective goal management, time and task management, and emotional and stress management during their college life. She urged each student to accept the past, organize the present, and yearn for the future, by keeping a clear mind and not being controlled by emotions, to become a better version of themselves.

Professor SANG Zhiqin

Professor SANG Zhiqin lecture was titled "Sunny Mindset, Healthy Life". Beginning with a warm interaction with the students by playing a clapping game to practice breathing exercises, she drew active participation from the audience. She talked about positive psychology and how to create happiness through positive thinking and showed the “Eight-Fold Way” of positive psychology through scientific research on happiness. Professor SANG urged every student at MUST to be the protagonists and directors of their own college life, to find their place in the new environment with self-reliance, confidence, and positive psychology, becoming invincible on the road to self-improvement.

Finally, the counselors from the Student Affairs Office Psychological Counseling Team at MUST led interactive activities to help students identify their emotions. They explained the team’s main responsibilities, annual activities, and how to book counseling services. Their goal is to support every student’s mental health throughout their time at the University.

The "University Life" course, a compulsory course for incoming graduates, is structured to facilitate a seamless transition into university life. It helps freshmen to plan for future careers through a series of comprehensive, interdisciplinary lectures and practical experiences.
