On the afternoon of August 29th, the 2025/2026 academic year orientation for Pre-university students was held at N211. This grand annual meeting of the university leaders, teachers, staff and new students aims to prepare the new Pre-U students for the life and study in MUST in the upcoming academic year and a smooth promotion to the undergraduate program.
Guests and speakers attending the orientation include Vice President Chair Professor Paul TAM Kwong Hang, Head of Academic Affairs Office and Officer of the Academic Office of the Department of General Education Ms. Amy CHU, Coordinator of Pre-university Programme Assistant Professor QI Juanjuan, Assistant Administrative Officer Mr. Ray HO, as well as mentor for Pre-university students Assistant Professor YANG Qingfan, Assistant Professor ZHENG Yingfeng, Lecturer WANG Zhiqiang, Lecturer CAO Leyi and Lecturer LI Jiawei. Dr. Qi hosted the orientation and invited Chair Professor Tam to address the grand meeting. Chair Professor Tam first advised new students to better motivate themselves into learning and quickly familiarise with the surroundings of Macao; and then expected students to obey Macao’s laws and the University’s rules and regulations; and encouraged students to stay alert to protect against telecommunications scams. Last but not least, he wished students have a good learning experience, make friends and enjoy time in the Macau University of Science and Technology.
Then, as a tradition, this orientation invited two excellent student representatives who once studied in Pre-U program to share with these new students their own experiences and tips as to the life in Macao and study in MUST. Fresh graduate YI Yuxin suggested that the new students should cherish their time, plan reasonably, cultivate interests, and broaden their horizons. While Chen Jiale encouraged them to set clear goals, boldly explore diverse activities, and lay a solid foundation for admission to their dream major and an enriching university life.
Subsequently, Dr. Qi introduced the whole Pre-U program framework, duties of the Department of General Education Office. Lastly, Lecturer LI Jiawei, as a representative of mentors for Pre-university students introduced the university mentorship system.
At 16:00 the orientation ended with heated discussion and interaction between the speakers and the new students. Department of General Education is determined to work harder and provide more elective courses and activities popular among the young students, so that we can better facilitate the Pre-U students to have not only a smooth first year study but also a splendid further academic study life in their dream faculties in MUST.
